KWIK RULES
Kwik is intended as an introduction to cricket for very young boys and girls and whilst it is recognised that cricket is a competitive game the prime purpose of Kwik is that children in safety can enjoy the game without too much pressure. So play to win – YES – but be aware that the real competitive edge is best reserved for the Hardball games.
1. The Competition is open to any member Club and will be administered by Cricket Erewash Management Committee.
2. A subscription of £12 will be levied (due 31st March) for each club.
3. Teams will consist of 8 players.
Boys - born on or after 1.9.98 will be eligible for this competition
Girls - born on or after 1.9.97 will be eligible for this competition.
Note! It is the responsibility of the team manager to establish if a player is the correct age.
Guidance Notes for Team Managers.
County u10 and u11 hardball players are barred from this competition!
Established u11 hardball players should not be used for this competition. (Guidance note! 4 matches at Hardball to constitute established hardball player. )
Kwik Competitions are to introduce young players to cricket. Intimidation of young players by older or more competent players must not be permitted.
4 The pitch to be 16 yards long. An extra line (called a pitching line) is to be marked across the pitch 8 yards from each end. The minimum recommended boundary is 20 yards.
5 Start Time 6.30pm at the latest preferably before. (As soon as all teams are present)
6 The Host club is the organiser at their venue and the Result Sheet fully completed must be mailed or Emailed to the Under 11 Co-ordinator as soon as possible after the matches have taken place.
7. Matches will consist of one 8 over innings per side. The decision to bat first is to be decided by the toss of a coin.
a. Batting Players will bat in pairs. Each pair will face two overs regardless of how many times they are dismissed. Batsmen will change ends so that any dismissed batsman does not face the next delivery. All normal ways of dismissal except L.B.W. will apply.
Note! Each team must provide an umpire (who may give advice) and a scorer. Umpires must ensure that strikers do not face the next ball after being dismissed. The Umpires decision is final.
b. Bowling Each player will bowl one six ball over with over arm action.
No ball must be called if the ball does not pitch over the ‘pitching line’ OR
passes without pitching (or would have passed without pitching) above waist height of the batsman standing upright in his/her normal stance position irrespective of whether the ball is struck or is out of reach of the batsman.
Wide ball - will be called if the striker stands no chance of moving to strike the ball or the ball pitches and rises above head height.
Note! Bowler’s end Umpire only may call the Wide Ball
c. Fielding No fielder is to stand closer than 11 yards from the striker
Notes! Underarm bowling will be allowed at the Umpires discretion.
Umpires should use their discretion to decide if a delivery is unplayable.
Bowling may take place from one end only.
A delivery cannot be called wide if the striker hits the ball.
8. Scoring - Teams will start with 100 runs. Scoring will be as in normal cricket: - except 5 runs will be deducted for each dismissal. A Wide or No-ball counts as 2 runs and is not re-bowled in the first 7 overs of each innings. In the 8th over of each innings – each wide or no-ball is to be re-bowled but no penalty runs are to be awarded. All additional runs or extras scored will be added to the penalty. E.g.: - a wide ball which crosses the boundary will count as 6 runs two for the penalty and four for the boundary and a no ball hit clear of the boundary will count 8 runs two for the penalty and six for the boundary – except in the last over when the 2 run penalty is not awarded.
Note! Scorers should acknowledge all the umpires signals. Umpires and scorers should consult if there is any doubt as to the number of runs awarded by the umpire.
9 Result - The team scoring the most runs after deductions will be the winner. If tied, the
team taking most wickets will be the winner. If still tied the team scoring most runs with the bat will be the winner.
Each team manager is to confirm all results with the Home Club Organiser.
10. Misconduct, infringement of any rule, interpretation of any rule, or any other matter not provided for within these rules, to be dealt with by the Management Committee of Cricket Erewash whose decision will be final.
11 Away teams must take 1 complete set of Kwik kit (Stumps – bats – ball) to ALL AWAY matches. (To ensure that the host club has sufficient kit to stage the matches)

PLAYING RULES
1 Matches
a. Teams to consist of 8 players
b Matches should commence at 6.00pm but no later than 6.30pm on FRIDAY evenings.
c Each club should provide an umpire (properly attired) and a scorer. Where possible sightscreens should be used.
d Each game to consist of 1 innings per side.
e Each innings to be of 16 overs duration.
f. The pitch to be 20 yards in length. (National Standard at this age)
g. A recommended junior ball (4-3/4 ozs) to be used. NB The Fielding team to provide their own ball that must be of good quality.
h The stumps may be 27" above the ground and 8" wide.
i. The decision to bat first is to be decided by the toss of a coin. In the event of an injury occurring, a reserve may take the place of the injured player and bat or bowl as appropriate If no reserve is available any over due to be bowled or completed by the injured player may be bowled by another player without exceeding the quota allowed. The captain of the fielding side will choose a player from the batting side to bat in place of a player injured whilst batting or unable to bat.
j. It is mandatory that all batsmen and wicket-keepers wear a helmet.
2. Batting.
The batting side will be divided into pairs. Each pair will bat for 4 overs, changing at the end of the 4th, 8th, & 12th overs. Batsmen shall have unlimited lives but each life will result in 5 runs deducted from the score. No batsman who is out for any reason will face the next ball. Batsman will change ends at the fall of each wicket except on the last ball of an over.
3. Bowling and Fielding.
a. Each player on the fielding side (except the wicket-keeper) must bowl 1 over in turn until all have bowled. After this the remaining overs are bowled with no bowler having more than 3 overs.
b. No fielder (except the wicket-keeper) may field closer than 11 yards, measured from the middle stump, except behind the wicket on the off side.
c. In addition to the Laws of Cricket regarding No balls, any ball that passes (without pitching) above waist height, irrespective of whether it is struck by the batsman or is outside a batsman's reach will be called a NO BALL.
d. Any ball that pitches and rises above head height will be called a Wide Ball.
e. A Wide or No-ball counts as 2 runs and is not re-bowled in the first 15 overs of each innings. In the 16th over of each innings – each wide or no-ball is to be re-bowled but no penalty runs are to be awarded.
4. Scoring/Result.
Each team will commence with 200 runs. The winning team shall be
the side scoring the most runs after deductions for wickets lost. If the scores are equal, the team taking the most wickets. If still equal, the team with the highest at end of the 15th over and or preceding overs, until a winner is found.
Note! Scorers should acknowledge all the umpires signals. Umpires and scorers should consult if there is any doubt on any matter.
5. Points. Two Points will be awarded to the winning side. One point to each side in the event of a game being abandoned or cancelled due to inclement weather. 0 points to the losing team. All scheduled fixtures, weather permitting, to be played on Friday Evenings, and completed on the dates as printed in the league handbook. Failure to fulfil a fixture – thereby forfeiting the game – will result in the points being awarded to the non-defaulting team.
NB! There is NO sharing of points. If both teams fail to play the match (ie the non-defaulting team cannot be determined) then 0 Points will be awarded to both teams
For 2010 - replays - If a match is not played for reasons of weather, ground unfit or it falls on a Bank Holiday then – mutual agreement of a new date for the replay MUST BE MADE WITHIN 7 days and NOTIFIED TO THE ORGANISER. The new date may be anytime during the season up to 1 week past the final scheduled game.
In the event of a tie on points in the league the winners will be the side that has scored the most runs per wicket. If still a tie than the side scoring the most runs will win the competition.
6. Umpires are especially reminded of law 42 which outlaws deliberate short pitched intimidatory bowling especially taking into consideration the relative age and skill of a batter whether it be a boy or a girl. The Management Committee of the League ask all Umpires and Youth Team Managers to take immediate action to eliminate such bowling from the Youth League.
IMPORTANT NOTE! LAWS OF CRICKET
For 2010 - 5 Penalty Runs will be awarded under Law 41-2 (Fielding the Ball) & 41-3 (Protective Helmets belonging to the Fielding Side). However under Law 42, (Fair & Unfair Play) Penalty runs will not be awarded but all other sanctions will remain.
